IDF Chief Vows No Withdrawal in Lebanon Until Long-Term Security Is Ensured

IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir conducted a field visit in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, meeting with commanders and soldiers of the Kfir Brigade (900), who recently began their first operational maneuver in Lebanon after extended combat in the Gaza Strip. During the visit, Zamir assessed the readiness of the troops and emphasized the ongoing nature of the campaign across multiple fronts.

Zamir stated that the IDF is prepared for any changes in the situation and a wide range of scenarios, stressing the need for rapid, offensive action to deepen the impact on the enemy. He highlighted significant achievements against Iran and declared that if necessary, the IDF would expand its operations further into Lebanese territory. The general confirmed that the IDF has captured and is clearing areas in Lebanon previously used by Hezbollah for attacks against northern Israeli communities.

He underscored the IDF's security doctrine, which involves maintaining forward defense zones deep within enemy territory to protect Israeli civilians. Zamir made clear that the IDF will not withdraw from captured areas until long-term security is guaranteed. He also noted that the IDF is active on multiple fronts including Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank, with expanding missions requiring an increase in troop numbers.

Zamir concluded by outlining plans for all regular brigades to undergo rest and refit before the holiday season, alongside efforts to reduce reserve service where possible, aiming to sustain security for northern Israeli residents over time.
