Israel Plans Response to Hezbollah Drone Attack Near Lebanon Border

Israel is preparing to respond to a Hezbollah explosive drone strike that hit an Israeli Defense Forces engineering vehicle near the Ali Taher ridge in the Israeli security zone in southern Lebanon. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, and Israeli military officials have been conducting situation assessments and preparing several response options pending political approval. One option under consideration involves carrying out sensitive operations that were previously postponed due to regional escalation and requests from the U.S. administration to keep focus away from the Lebanese front while tensions with Iran were high.

An Israeli official told Kan News that Israel retains the right to respond to the drone attack, including under the ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese government, which permits Israeli action against Hezbollah if it violates the ceasefire. Meanwhile, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi visited southern Lebanon and stated that the military is prepared for any changes in the situation. He emphasized that the IDF has captured territory in Lebanon and is clearing it of terrorist infrastructure, adding, "If required, we will deepen our operations and reach additional areas. The IDF is responsible for security and will not withdraw from captured areas until long-term security is ensured."

Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF confirmed Hezbollah launched the explosive drone at the engineering vehicle, calling it a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement. Concurrently, the IDF has begun withdrawing from pilot zones in Lebanon, though concerns remain in Israel about whether the Lebanese government will effectively manage Hezbollah’s activities. The situation remains tense as Israel weighs its next moves amid ongoing regional instability.
