Israeli Court Sentences Barkat Abu Isa to 21 Years for Home Invasion and Rape in Gedera

Barkat Abu Isa, a resident of Tel Sheva, was sentenced to 21 years in prison and ordered to pay 200,000 shekels in compensation after being convicted of breaking into a home in Gedera and raping a woman in front of her two-year-old son. The conviction came nearly three years after the attack, which occurred in the dead of night. Abu Isa was also found guilty of child abuse related to the incident.

The victim testified that Abu Isa tied her up in front of her young son, then assaulted her after roaming the house. She described the trauma and fear she experienced, recalling how she tried to resist and protect her child but ultimately surrendered out of fear for their lives. During the trial, Abu Isa denied involvement and suggested the DNA evidence might belong to a brother, but the court found the victim's testimony credible and supported by conclusive evidence, ruling beyond reasonable doubt that Abu Isa was responsible.

The victim previously shared her ordeal in a televised interview, expressing the terror she felt and the threats Abu Isa made to kill her and her children if she did not remain silent.
