Israeli Court Sentences Father to 20 Years for Sexual Abuse of Daughter and Wife

An Israeli district court in Central Lod sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for repeatedly raping and sexually abusing his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter and his wife. The offenses against the toddler were uncovered through hidden cameras installed by the mother, who suspected her ex-partner of abuse after their divorce in December 2021. In August 2024, the mother set up a covert video system at her home and invited the father to babysit their daughter, using the pretext of leaving the house, which led to the documentation of the abuse.

The court found that the defendant raped and molested his young daughter multiple times, treating her as an object for his sexual gratification. The judges highlighted the extreme severity of the crimes, noting the child's young age and limited ability to communicate prevented her from reporting the abuse. The defendant was also convicted of raping his wife on three separate occasions while she was asleep during their marriage. The wife began sleeping in tight jeans as a result of the trauma.

The court ordered the defendant to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation to the victims and imposed additional suspended prison time. The judges praised the mother's courage and resourcefulness in exposing the crimes, which led to the prosecution. Prosecutor Iris Picker Segal emphasized the defendant's brutal exploitation of the trust and dependence between a child and her biological father, as well as the betrayal of his wife's dignity and bodily autonomy within their home.

During sentencing, the judges addressed the mother directly, commending her bravery and expressing hope that she and her daughter can now focus on healing. The court fully rejected the defendant's attempts to discredit the mother and dismiss the allegations as baseless.
