Jerusalem Court Sentences Father to 18 Years for Sexual Abuse of Three Daughters
The Jerusalem District Court sentenced a father to 18 years in prison for committing dozens of sexual offenses against his three minor daughters over approximately ten years. The abuse began when the girls were aged 7, 9, and 10 and occurred repeatedly in the family home, exploiting the trust inherent in the father-daughter relationship. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a suspended sentence and ordered the father to pay a total compensation of 240,000 shekels to the victims.
The prosecution, represented by Attorney Shay Atzion, emphasized that the family home, which should have been a safe haven for the girls, became the site of their greatest danger. The prolonged abuse caused deep and lasting harm to the victims. The defendant refused to take responsibility and chose to contest the charges fully, forcing the victims to testify in court. Given the severity and multiplicity of offenses and the significant damage to the victims, the prosecution sought a substantial prison term and compensation.
The court highlighted the gravity of the crimes and noted that the defendant's denial of wrongdoing fractured the family, increased the victims' suffering, and led to their ostracism by some family members. Attorney Atzion described intra-family sexual abuse as among the most severe violations of trust, especially when perpetrated by a parent within the home. The victims showed courage in breaking their silence and testifying, enabling the defendant to be brought to justice.
Legal representatives Likol Tamsut and Hadar Ezra Weizel, representing the victims through the Ministry of Justice's legal aid, stated that the daughters grew up in a home that was supposed to be nurturing but was instead harmful. The long-term abuse will continue to affect them for years. The defendant's refusal to accept responsibility forced the daughters to relive the trauma during lengthy court proceedings, exacerbating their suffering. The family’s rejection of the victims caused further harm. While no punishment can restore their childhood, the court’s belief in the victims and the significant sentence provide some measure of justice.
