The father was arrested and his detention was extended from time to time. Police completed the investigation and filed a prosecutor’s statement. An indictment is expected to be filed against him in the coming week.
Police forces opened an investigation several weeks ago following a complaint by a woman from Jerusalem in her early 20s, on suspicion of severe sexual abuse by her father. According to the complaint, the father, an Arab resident of Hebron in his 60s, abused his daughter from when she was a minor, at about age 14, and for many years, until recently.
Following the young woman’s shocking testimony, in which she described her father’s actions at various times, the suspect was arrested at the beginning of the month for questioning at the Hebron station of the Judea District. Since his arrest, he has been detained and his detention has been extended periodically by the court, to allow further investigative steps in his case.
The appeals court discussed the extension of his detention and found no flaw in the decision, and the suspect remained in custody. During the weeks of investigation and evidence gathering, the level of suspicion against the father allegedly increased.
As part of the investigative steps, police investigators carried out a supervised confrontation between the father and his daughter. During the confrontation, investigators noticed that the father was having great difficulty controlling himself, to the point that they confronted him about it and he stopped.
Police investigators have now completed the investigation and filed a prosecutor’s statement against him as part of the latest extension of his detention, indicating the intention to file an indictment against him. His detention was extended at the end of the hearing until the end of next week to allow the indictment to be filed.
