Israeli Court Sentences Barkat Abu Isa to 21 Years for Home Invasion and Rape in Gedera

Barkat Abu Isa, a resident of Tel Sheva, was sentenced to 21 years in prison and ordered to pay 200,000 shekels in compensation after being convicted of breaking into a home in Gedera and raping a woman in front of her two-year-old son. The conviction, handed down three years after the crime, also included charges of child abuse. According to the indictment, Abu Isa entered the family home late at night, tied the woman up near her young son, and assaulted her while the child was present. The victim testified that she initially tried to resist and scream for help but was threatened with death if she did not remain silent.

During the trial, Abu Isa denied involvement and suggested that DNA evidence might belong to one of his brothers. However, the court found the victim's testimony credible and consistent, supported by additional evidence, and ruled that the evidence linked Abu Isa to the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. In a previous interview, the victim described her fear of being killed along with her children and her attempts to defend herself against the attacker, including biting him and moving furniture to resist.
