MK Boaz Bismuth Confronts Supreme Court Judge Noam Solberg Over Election Committee Appointments

A rare confrontation occurred on Monday between MK Boaz Bismuth, chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, and Supreme Court Judge Noam Solberg during a security committee meeting in the Knesset. The session focused on foreign interference risks in Israel's upcoming elections. Bismuth warned that Iran would attempt to turn the elections into another battleground and sharply criticized the recent appointments to the Central Elections Committee, demanding explanations from Solberg, who chairs the committee.

Solberg responded with surprise, stating that the committee was aware of troubling reports about the appointments and was reviewing them. He defended the recent appointees, expressing trust in their performance. Bismuth insisted that the appointments warranted scrutiny and promised to review them during the discussion, asserting his claims were well-founded.

Separately, Amichai Stein reported on i24NEWS that Israeli security officials also suspect Turkey of attempting to interfere in the elections by sowing division through social media. Earlier, Shin Bet chief David Zini warned Israeli officials about foreign attempts to disrupt the electoral process, emphasizing that Iran and other countries are actively trying to sabotage the elections. Zini described election interference as the second most concerning threat after the risk of large-scale terror attacks and pledged that Shin Bet would take all necessary measures to prevent disruption.
