Two Jewish-Owned Bagel Shops in Canada Targeted in Suspected Antisemitic Attacks

Two branches of the Jewish-owned Akiva's Bagel Bar chain in Canada were attacked early Thursday morning, suffering gunfire damage and broken windows. Canadian police are investigating the incidents as suspected antisemitic hate crimes. The first report involved a window shattered by gunfire at one location, while about 30 minutes later, a second branch reported a broken window without signs of shooting. No injuries were reported in either attack.

Authorities are currently examining whether the two events are connected and are actively seeking those responsible. The Hate Crime Unit and a joint task force on weapons and gang crime are leading the investigation. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Local police officer Scott Bradbury acknowledged community concerns, especially within the Jewish population, assuring that all necessary resources are being deployed for a thorough investigation. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow strongly condemned the attacks, stating, "There is no place for hate of any kind in Toronto," and emphasized that perpetrators will be arrested and punished. She also noted increased police presence near synagogues and Jewish community centers.

These attacks add to a recent series of antisemitic incidents in Canada and the United States, heightening anxiety among Jewish communities in both countries.
