Toronto Police Investigate Hate Crimes After Shots Fired at Jewish Bakery

Toronto police are investigating two anti-Semitic incidents that occurred on Sunday at branches of the Jewish bakery chain Kiva's Bagel Bar. The attacks happened within twenty minutes of each other, with one involving gunfire directed at a bakery building and the other involving a broken window at a different branch. No injuries were reported in either incident. Authorities are treating the events as suspected hate crimes and are examining whether the two attacks are connected.

Local police officer Scott Bradbury acknowledged the community's concern, especially among Jewish residents and workers in the area, and confirmed that all necessary resources are being deployed to thoroughly investigate the case. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the attacks, stating that hatred has no place in the city and emphasizing that perpetrators must be arrested and punished. She also announced increased security measures around Jewish institutions and said further steps are being considered.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar expressed his concern over the disturbing news from Toronto, highlighting that fortunately no one was harmed. He described the incidents as part of a troubling series of violent and intimidating acts against the Canadian Jewish community and called on the Canadian government to confront this wave of violent anti-Semitism.
