Border Police Officer Hananel Sabag Named in Fatal Shooting of Soldier Friend During Sukkot

Hananel Sabag, a Border Police officer, has been officially named by Israel's Supreme Court in connection with the fatal shooting of his friend, IDF soldier Yosef Rabuh, during the Sukkot holiday in 2025. The incident occurred at Rabuh's home in Kiryat Arba, where Sabag allegedly discharged his firearm accidentally while demonstrating its use, resulting in Rabuh's death from a stray bullet.

The Military Police Investigations Unit (Mahash) filed charges against Sabag in October 2025, accusing him of negligent homicide, recklessness, and illegal possession of a weapon. The Haifa District Court initially approved the publication of Sabag's name, and after Sabag's appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court, the name was cleared for public release solely regarding these charges.
