Border Police Officer Shoots at Police in Netanya, Dies From Wounds

A serious incident occurred Saturday evening, September 5, in the Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood of Netanya, when a 20-year-old Border Police (MAGAV) conscript, Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, opened fire on police officers before being "neutralized." Initially reported in critical condition, Amrani later died from his injuries. No other casualties were reported.

Amrani, a resident of Netanya, was reportedly suffering from PTSD. However, the Ministry of Defense's rehabilitation department stated he was not registered with them and had not sought assistance. He had been drafted into the Border Police in August 2024 and served in Hebron before being transferred to the 39th company of MAGAV in the Judea and Samaria region approximately eight months ago.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing automatic gunfire, causing residents to flee indoors. Police forces and Central District Commander Major General Amir Cohen responded to the scene. Emergency medical services confirmed the shooter was neutralized by police and that there were no other victims.

Idan Kleiman, chairman of the Disabled IDF Veterans Organization, called for a thorough investigation into the incident, highlighting it as a "disturbing signal" for Israel regarding its treatment of thousands of soldiers suffering from long-term psychological trauma. He urged National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to order a joint investigation by the IDF and Ministry of Defense to prevent future occurrences.
