Maccabi Tel Aviv's head coach Kenny Miller expressed confidence in his team's readiness ahead of their Europa League qualifying match against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday. Following a successful start to the season with a victory in the Israeli Super Cup, Miller emphasized the importance of maintaining high performance early in the season. He highlighted the team's strong showing against Hapoel Be'er Sheva as proof of their fitness and strength.
Miller also noted the return of key players, including Léo Varrella, which has strengthened the squad's depth for the two-legged tie. This campaign marks Miller's first as a head coach in European competition, a milestone he described as very exciting. He stressed the team's goal to win and improve on their recent performances.
Acknowledging the challenges of away matches in European tournaments, Miller drew on his experience as a former player to underline the difficulty of securing results on the road. He pointed out that the two-legged format requires careful management across both games, as nothing is decided in the first 90 minutes.
Finally, Miller commented on the unexpected cold weather in Moldova, humorously noting his surprise at arriving in shorts and a T-shirt, which reminded him of the Scottish climate he is accustomed to.
