Maccabi Haifa Nears Signing Wolves Defender Nigel Lonwijk to Strengthen Defense

Maccabi Haifa is close to finalizing the signing of 23-year-old Dutch-Surinamese defender Nigel Lonwijk from English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club is expected to pay around 500,000 to 600,000 euros for the transfer. Lonwijk, who has been loaned out to several English clubs including Plymouth, Wycombe, and Luton, has made 104 appearances and scored five goals during his time in England. The move comes on the recommendation of former Maccabi Haifa captain Charon Sherri, who is familiar with Lonwijk from their time in Dutch football.

This potential signing is part of Maccabi Haifa's aggressive summer recruitment drive, which has already seen the arrivals of players such as Novakovic, goalkeeper Omri Glazer, Yair Mordechai, Wanderson, Tsunami, and Bruninho. Head coach Barak Bachar and his staff aim to complete the deal soon to have a fully prepared and cohesive squad for the upcoming season's official matches.
