Tel Aviv University Tops Israel in 2026 NTU Global Research Ranking
Tel Aviv University has been ranked as the leading university in Israel according to the 2026 NTU (Taiwan) Ranking, rising seven places from the previous year to 206th globally. The NTU Ranking is a prestigious international index that evaluates universities solely on research excellence, excluding teaching quality and reputation surveys. It assesses research output, citation impact, and research excellence using metrics such as the h-index, number of top-quartile publications, and articles in high-impact journals.
In the overall Israeli university rankings, Tel Aviv University leads, followed by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem at 263rd worldwide, the Weizmann Institute of Science at 310th, Technion at 382nd, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in the 501-550 range, Bar-Ilan University at 801-850, and University of Haifa at 851-900.
Tel Aviv University also achieved top national rankings across multiple academic fields. It ranked 102nd globally in medicine, the highest among Israeli institutions, and led Israel in life sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and agriculture. Technion was ranked first in Israel for engineering. The NTU Ranking is published annually and is based on three main components: research output (25%), citation impact (35%), and research excellence (40%), measured through established bibliometric indicators.
