Hamas Planned Terror Attacks Across Europe on October 7, 2025, Swiss Investigation Reveals

A Swiss newspaper investigation published on Tuesday exposes a broad Hamas network operating across several European countries, preparing for attacks on Jewish institutions and Israeli and American targets. The report reveals that Hamas planned a series of terror attacks in Europe on October 7, 2025, marking the second anniversary of its deadly assault on Israel in 2023. Although authorities uncovered the cell responsible for planning these attacks, ongoing investigations indicate the threat remains active.

Arrests and probes in Germany, Denmark, the UK, Austria, Greece, and Cyprus have strengthened suspicions of a widespread Hamas infrastructure on the continent. German federal prosecutors found that suspects were preparing attacks against Jewish and Israeli sites in Europe. Investigators also discovered a pre-recorded video claiming responsibility for one planned attack, mirroring the style of Hamas’s 2023 assault in Israel.

The network smuggled weapons across Europe, including at least 13 handguns, a Kalashnikov rifle, and over 900 rounds of ammunition, moving them through Denmark, Germany, and Austria. A weapons cache was found in Vienna, with evidence suggesting Hamas began stockpiling arms in Europe as early as 2019. In February 2023, a Berlin-based cell was ordered to prepare attacks against Jewish, Israeli, or American targets. Four Hamas members were convicted in Berlin in spring 2023 for their roles in the European infrastructure.

German Federal Prosecutor Jens Rommel told Bild that Hamas operatives abroad, along with supporters and organized crime affiliates, acquire and smuggle weapons to prepare attacks in Europe. Many hold European citizenship or Schengen visas, allowing free movement. Rommel described them as highly mobile, well-connected, and financially resourced.

In a related case from early June, Greek special forces arrested a 37-year-old Palestinian-Egyptian man in Crete suspected of supporting Hamas. He had lived in Germany for several months and possessed chemicals and bomb-making materials. His cell allegedly planned an attack on an Israeli cruise ship docked in a Cretan port. The investigations portray a transnational terror infrastructure exploiting Schengen freedom to prepare weapons, explosives, and targets to replicate the October 7 attack on European soil.
