Hamas Planned Large-Scale Attacks on Jewish Targets Across Europe, Foiled by Intelligence Operations

A Swiss newspaper investigation revealed that Hamas had been planning extensive terror attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets throughout Europe for several years. The plot, described as a "second October 7" style assault, was intended to occur on the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack. German federal and security authorities uncovered the plan through intelligence and investigations, exposing a significant shift in Hamas's operational scope beyond Israel and the Palestinian territories.

The investigation detailed that Hamas had developed intelligence and logistical capabilities in Europe well before the 2023 attack. The planned wave of coordinated attacks was disrupted by comprehensive intelligence operations and arrests carried out in multiple countries, including Germany, Austria, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Cyprus. Authorities uncovered a smuggling network transporting weapons such as AK-47 rifles, pistols, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition between Denmark, Germany, and Austria.

Vienna served as a logistical hub where explosives and weapons caches were found, while a suspect linked to the network was arrested in London. So far, four Hamas operatives have been convicted in Germany in connection with the plot. The thwarted plan underscores the growing threat Hamas poses beyond the Middle East and highlights the importance of international cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.
