Man Charged with Murder After Beating Wife with Wine Bottle and Leaving Her to Bleed to Death

The Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed a murder indictment against Michael Olpovitch, 66, from Ashdod, accusing him of killing his wife Olga, 64, after 42 years of marriage. According to the indictment, on June 19, following a dispute, Olpovitch struck his wife multiple times on the head with a wine bottle while she lay in bed. The blows caused severe skull fractures and critical damage to her central nervous system. Despite seeing her bleeding and unresponsive, he did not seek medical help or call for assistance for two days, during which she died from her injuries.

After the assault, Olpovitch inflicted superficial cuts on his left hand and stabbed himself in the left chest. Two days later, on Sunday morning at 7:24 AM, he called his daughter and son-in-law to confess that he had harmed his wife and that she was dead. The family arrived at the apartment with police and medical teams, who found Olga lifeless. The indictment states that Olpovitch intentionally caused his wife's death.

The couple lived together in Ashdod, and the incident followed a disagreement over household chores. The prosecution alleges that Olpovitch deliberately refrained from helping his wife after the attack, leading to her death. The case is now before the Beersheba District Court.
