Likud Committee Grants Netanyahu Seven Personal Slots on Upcoming Election List

The Likud party's Constitution Committee approved significant changes to the party's Knesset candidate list ahead of the next elections, substantially increasing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's influence. Netanyahu was granted seven personal reserved slots within the top 29 realistic positions on the list, allowing him to place loyalists and new faces without depending on internal primary results.

In addition to these personal reservations, the committee approved measures to boost female representation by allocating more reserved and guaranteed spots for women in winnable positions. However, this restructuring has pushed regional Likud representatives further down the list, reducing their chances of securing Knesset seats.

Given the sensitive security situation, the committee also authorized a special emergency clause. This clause empowers Netanyahu to independently form a committee to finalize the candidate list if security conditions prevent the normal conduct of party primaries among registered members.
