Maccabi Haifa Signs Brazilian Defender Tsunami for Two Years

Maccabi Haifa has officially signed Brazilian defender Wanderson Tsunami to a two-year contract following his medical tests on Sunday. The versatile 30-year-old player can operate both as a center-back and left-back, though coach Barak Bachar plans to primarily use him as a left-back until injured players Yinon Feingezicht and Pierre Cornu return. Tsunami expressed excitement about joining the club, praising its strong fan base and committing to helping the team achieve its goals.

The club's sporting director, Lior Rafaelov, highlighted Tsunami's experience, versatility, leadership, and professionalism, noting his role as captain at his previous club abroad. Rafaelov emphasized that Tsunami's presence will benefit the team and serve as a role model for younger players both on and off the field.

Tsunami arrived in Europe from Brazil in January 2022, signing with Levski Sofia in Bulgaria's top league. Over four years, he became a fan favorite, earned Bulgarian citizenship, and captained the team. He started last season with Levski Sofia, playing a full match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Europa League qualifiers but missed the return leg due to injury. After losing his starting spot and becoming a rotation player, he transferred in January to Igdir in Turkey's second division.
