Maccabi Haifa Signs Brazilian Defender Wanderson Tsunami on Two-Year Deal
Maccabi Haifa officially announced the signing of 30-year-old Brazilian defender Wanderson Tsunami on July 19, 2026. The versatile left-footed player, who can operate as a center-back or left-back, joined the Israeli Premier League club after completing a successful medical examination. Tsunami arrived in Israel the day before and signed a two-year contract following his free transfer from Turkish second division side Iğdır, where he played 16 matches, scored two goals, and provided one assist.
Tsunami began his professional career in Brazil's lower leagues before moving to Bulgarian club Levski Sofia in January 2022. At Levski, he became a key player and captain, helping the team win both the league title and the national cup. In January 2026, he transferred to Iğdır for €150,000. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at €1.4 million.
After signing, Tsunami expressed excitement about joining Maccabi Haifa, praising the club and its passionate fan base. Maccabi Haifa's sporting director, Lior Rafaelov, highlighted Tsunami's experience, versatility, leadership qualities, and professionalism, noting his captaincy abroad as a testament to his character. Rafaelov emphasized that Tsunami's presence will benefit the team and serve as a role model for younger players both on and off the field.
