Maccabi Haifa Signs Brazilian Defender Wondersson Tsunami on Two-Year Deal
Maccabi Haifa officially announced the signing of 30-year-old Brazilian defender Wondersson Tsunami on July 19, 2026. Tsunami, who can play as a center-back or left-back, joined the Israeli Premier League club after completing medical tests and signing a two-year contract. He arrived in Israel the day before after reaching an agreement with the team.
Tsunami most recently played in Turkey's second division for Igdir, where he made 16 appearances, scored two goals, and provided one assist. Previously, he was a key player and captain at Bulgarian club Levski Sofia, winning both the league title and the national cup. His transfer to Igdir in January 2026 cost 150,000 euros, but he joined Maccabi Haifa on a free transfer. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at 1.4 million euros.
Starting his career in lower-tier Brazilian leagues, Tsunami has evolved from a left-back to primarily a center-back over the past two years. After signing, he expressed excitement about joining Maccabi Haifa and praised the club and its passionate fan base. The club’s sporting director, Lior Rafaelov, highlighted Tsunami’s experience, versatility, leadership, and professionalism, noting his captaincy abroad as a testament to his character. Rafaelov expects Tsunami to contribute significantly on and off the pitch and serve as a role model for younger players.
