IDF Battalion Commander on Jordan Valley Border Prepares for October 7-Style Scenarios

Lieutenant Colonel V, commander of the 47th Battalion "Lavi HaBik'a," spoke in an interview with Channel 7 about the security challenges along the eastern sector of the Jordan Valley border, which his battalion oversees. The area stretches from southern Bik'at HaYarden to north of the Dead Sea and includes two operational zones: the eastern and western sectors, the latter covering Jericho and nearby villages. He highlighted the operational difficulty of simultaneously defending these two zones across a broad area.

Lt. Col. V noted that recent months have seen various operations and preventive actions in the sector. He emphasized that the events of October 7 have significantly influenced their preparedness, despite the peace treaty with Jordan. "Our readiness, training, and the combat fitness of our soldiers are geared toward responding to sudden incidents from the eastern front," he said. He acknowledged the uncertainty following October 7 and explained that the forces are preparing for multiple potential scenarios.

The commander recalled two major attacks in the past two and a half years in the sector, which resulted in five fatalities. He stressed the importance of close cooperation with the local settlements, which include 23 communities, 26 farms, and critical infrastructure. This cooperation involves continuous coordination with local security agencies through joint exercises and constant situation updates.

Concluding the interview, Lt. Col. V praised the fighting spirit of the troops, describing them as highly dedicated and mission-focused. "The soldiers work very hard, often quietly, but there is a strong fighting spirit, with commanders leading from the front in every challenge and mission," he said.
