Barcelona Plans Temporary Move to Montjuïc Stadium for Early 2027/28 Season Due to Camp Nou Roof Installation

Barcelona has requested to play their home matches of the first half of the 2027/28 season at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc due to planned renovations at Camp Nou. The club is set to begin installing a new roof over Camp Nou starting June 2027, with initial estimates suggesting the work will last about four and a half months, until mid-October. However, to avoid potential delays disrupting the schedule, Barcelona prefers a cautious approach by relocating all home games during the first half of the season, including UEFA Champions League group stage matches, to Montjuïc.

This move also complies with UEFA regulations requiring a team to play all group stage matches of a competition at the same stadium. Alongside the roof installation, additional upgrades at Camp Nou are planned, with hopes to return to the renovated home ground by January 2028. Barcelona is familiar with Montjuïc as a temporary venue, having played there for two seasons during earlier Camp Nou renovations.

Meanwhile, ongoing summer works at Camp Nou continue, led by construction company Limak, aiming to open part of the third stand by October, pending Barcelona city council approval. The phased opening of this stand is expected to increase stadium capacity and improve the seating arrangement for visiting fans, addressing recent complaints from Barcelona supporters about opposing fans' locations. The club envisions the completed renovations will make the revamped Camp Nou one of the most advanced stadiums globally and mark the conclusion of its largest upgrade project in history.
