Barcelona Overhauls Squad, Releases Seven Players Ahead of New Season
Following a trophy-less season and failure to reach the EuroLeague playoffs, Barcelona is undergoing a major squad overhaul ahead of an intriguing summer. Over the past three days, the club announced the departure of more than half its roster from last season, releasing eight players in total and leaving only six remaining before new signings arrive.
The first to leave was Jan Vesely, who retired after a distinguished career. The seven players released and now free agents include guards Thomas Satoransky (2.01m, 34), Joani Marcos (1.90m, 25), Nico Laprovittola (1.90m, 36), guard/forward Miles Kyle (1.98m, 27), forward Miles Norris (2.01m, 26), center Willy Hernangomez (2.09m, 32), and center Youssoupha Fall (2.21m, 31).
Barcelona plans to strengthen key positions with new signings. Justin Robinson, coming off a strong EuroLeague debut with Paris, is expected to take over as point guard. Centers Josh Nzeakor and Moses Wright, who had a breakout season with Zalgiris, are set to lead the frontcourt. Additional notable arrivals include point guard Jomooha Gibson, who impressed in the EuroCup with Cedevita, and Finnish forward Olivier Nkamaha, who excelled with Italian club Varese.
This significant roster reshaping signals Barcelona's intent to rebuild and compete more effectively in the upcoming season.
