Barcelona Overhauls Roster, Releases Over Half Its Players Ahead of New Season
Following a trophyless season and failure to reach the EuroLeague playoffs, Barcelona is undergoing a major roster overhaul ahead of an intriguing summer. Over the past three days, the club announced the departure of eight players, leaving only six remaining on the squad before new signings are finalized. Among those leaving is Jan Vesely, who retired after a distinguished career. Seven other players were released and became free agents: guards Thomas Satoransky (2.01m, 34), Joani Marcos (1.90m, 25), Nico Laprovittola (1.90m, 36), Miles Kyle (guard/forward, 1.98m, 27), forwards Miles Norris (2.01m, 26), centers Willy Hernangomez (2.09m, 32), and Youssoupha Fall (2.21m, 31).
Barcelona aims to strengthen key positions with new signings, including Justin Robinson to take over point guard duties after a strong rookie EuroLeague season with Paris. At center, Josh Nzeakor and Moses Wright, who had a breakout season with Zalgiris, are expected to lead. Additional notable recruits include point guard Jomoeha Gibson, who impressed in his EuroCup debut with Cedevita, and Finnish forward Olivier Nkamaha, who excelled with Italy's Varese. This significant roster shakeup signals Barcelona's intent to rebuild and compete more effectively in the upcoming season.
