Barcelona Requests Temporary Move to Montjuïc Stadium for Early 2027/28 Season Due to Camp Nou Roof Renovations

Barcelona has requested to host all their home games during the first half of the 2027/28 season at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc. This move is due to planned renovations at Camp Nou, specifically the installation of a new roof, scheduled to begin in June 2027 and last approximately four and a half months until mid-October. Although the renovation timeline does not cover the entire half-season, Barcelona is taking a cautious approach to avoid potential delays by requesting to play all first-round home matches away from Camp Nou.

The club has submitted this request to La Liga officials, including president Javier Tebas, but has yet to receive a response. A key factor in the decision is UEFA regulations requiring teams to play all their home group stage matches of the Champions League at the same stadium, making a mid-season stadium change impossible.

If approved, this would mark a return to Montjuïc, which served as Barcelona's temporary home for two full seasons during previous Camp Nou renovations. The team also played several matches there at the start of last season before moving back to the renovated stadium. The upcoming 2023/24 season will begin as planned at Camp Nou, with the Joan Gamper Trophy match on August 19 and the first La Liga home game against Rayo Vallecano later that month.

Renovations at Camp Nou will continue throughout the season, with hopes to open additional sections of the third tier by October, pending approval from Barcelona's city council. The stadium's full capacity will be restored gradually as construction progresses.
