Israeli Police Arrest Ashdod Resident with 1.4 Kg of Drugs in Ongoing Crackdown
Israeli police in Ashdod have arrested a local resident suspected of operating a drug distribution hub, seizing approximately 1.4 kilograms of cannabis and hashish. The arrest took place during a planned operation by the Ashdod police's juvenile unit, which ambushed the suspect as he arrived at the location known as a "zula," a term for a drug dealing spot. The drugs were found packaged in distribution bags inside the suspect's vehicle, indicating intent to distribute. The suspect was taken in for further investigation.
Ashdod Police Station commander Superintendent Ronen Amram emphasized the force's continued commitment to combating drug offenses and criminal activity in the city, stating that this arrest is part of a series of proactive measures aimed at disrupting illegal drug distribution and protecting public safety.
This arrest coincided with a large-scale nationwide operation led by the Lahav 433 unit, involving hundreds of officers, Border Police fighters, and special units. The coordinated raids targeted dozens of locations across Israel, resulting in the detention of numerous suspects involved in illegal arms and drug trafficking. Among the key elements of the investigation was the deployment of an undercover agent from the Bedouin community, known as "The Nomad," who infiltrated criminal networks and facilitated dozens of weapons and drug transactions, including the purchase of illegal firearms such as M16 rifles and dozens of pistols, as well as around half a kilogram of cocaine.
Authorities described the operation as one of the most complex in recent years, involving prolonged covert work, tactical maneuvers, evidence collection, and documentation of significant arms and drug deals. The ongoing efforts reflect a broad strategy to dismantle criminal enterprises and enhance security nationwide.
