Yair Netanyahu Changes Name to Yonatan Hon, Official Documents Reveal
Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has legally changed his name to Yonatan Hon within the past year and a half, according to official tax authority documents published by Haaretz. Documents from December 2024 still show the name Yair Netanyahu, but more recent paperwork issued this year lists the new name Yonatan Hon, while retaining the same identification details including ID number and Balfour address.
Yair Netanyahu is registered as self-employed in advertising with both the Tax Authority and National Insurance Institute. During his time in Florida, he also registered a company in Connecticut focused on giving lectures. Recently, he posted new photos on social media indicating he underwent cosmetic facial procedures over the last year.
The surname Hon is not new to Yair; he previously used the nickname Yair Hon on social media. Hon is the original family name of Shmuel, father of Sara Netanyahu, before it was Hebraized. This name change follows a similar case in the Netanyahu family: Avner Netanyahu changed his name to Avi Segal about five years ago for security and privacy reasons while studying in England. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself used the name Ben Nitai during his time living in the United States.
Yair Netanyahu has not provided any comment regarding his name change.
