Israeli Police Investigate Officer Who Threw Stun Grenade Into Palestinian Vehicle

The Israeli Police Investigations Department questioned a Border Police officer on July 6 after video footage showed him throwing a stun grenade into a Palestinian vehicle in Kalandia. The footage, circulated on Palestinian social media, depicts the officer engaging in a verbal altercation with the Palestinian driver before throwing the grenade inside the car and physically blocking the driver from exiting until the grenade exploded. Other passengers escaped through a different door. Following the investigation, the officer was suspended from his unit for eight days and prohibited from contacting those involved.

Separately, a shooting incident in Kalandia resulted in the death of 16-year-old Walid Abu Shayna, a resident of the refugee camp. The Israeli police stated that the officer's actions in the stun grenade incident did not comply with regulations and that the case was referred to the Police Investigations Department. They declined to provide further comments.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions and confrontations in the Kalandia area between Israeli security forces and Palestinian residents. The investigation and suspension indicate official scrutiny of the officer's conduct in the event.
