Israeli Police Investigate Officer Who Threw Stun Grenade Into Palestinian Vehicle

The Israeli Police Investigations Department questioned a Border Police officer on July 6 after video footage showed him throwing a stun grenade into a Palestinian vehicle in Kalandia. The footage, circulated on Palestinian social media, depicts the officer engaging in a verbal confrontation with the Palestinian driver before throwing the grenade inside the car, preventing the driver from exiting until the grenade exploded. Other passengers escaped through a different door. Following the investigation, the officer was suspended from his unit for eight days and barred from contacting those involved.

Separately, in another incident in Kalandia, a 16-year-old Palestinian resident of the refugee camp, Walid Abu Shayna, was reportedly killed in a shooting. The Israeli police stated that the officer's actions in the stun grenade incident did not comply with regulations and that the case was referred to the Police Investigations Department. They declined to provide further comments on the matter.
