Maccabi Tel Aviv Parts Ways with Tamir Blatt as He Heads to Rival Hapoel Tel Aviv
Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on July 6, 2026, that point guard Tamir Blatt has ended his three-season tenure with the club, during which he won two championships. Blatt is now set to sign a three-year contract with their major rival, Hapoel Tel Aviv, reportedly earning around $1.6 million per season.
Blatt previously played for Hapoel Tel Aviv from 2014 to 2017 before stints with Hapoel Holon, Hapoel Jerusalem, and Alba Berlin. He returned to Israel to join Maccabi Tel Aviv, where in the most recent season he averaged 9.6 points per game, shooting 39% from three-point range, along with 4.5 assists per game.
He became a free agent after the last season, during which he struggled with an injury that caused him to miss the final playoff series. His move to Hapoel Tel Aviv marks a significant transfer between two of Israel's top basketball clubs.
