Israeli Captivity Survivor Alon Ohale Briefly Detained at US Entry Due to System Error
Alon Ohale, an Israeli survivor of captivity, was briefly detained for about an hour upon his arrival in New York due to a government database error that still listed him as a captive in Gaza. The issue was resolved after intervention by the Israeli consulate in New York, allowing him to enter the United States. Ohale appeared on the deck of the USS Nimitz as part of the 250th Independence Day celebrations in the US. During the event, he was joined by American musician John Ondrasik, known as Five for Fighting, who is a longtime supporter of Israel. Ondrasik renewed his hit song "Superman" in honor of Ohale and other captives.
