Orr Yarin, a 17-year-old midfielder for Barcelona's reserve team, is expected to receive a call-up to the senior Israel national team for upcoming matches against Kosovo and Austria. This decision by head coach Ran Ben Shimon comes after the Israeli U-21 team lost its chance to qualify for the European Championship following a draw with Norway. Ben Shimon had previously agreed with Olympic team coach Guy Luzon to prioritize playing time for Yarin in the U-21 squad as long as qualification was possible.
Yarin, considered a significant talent at Barcelona's La Masia academy, has been closely monitored by Ben Shimon, who is aware of the confidence placed in the young Israeli by Barcelona and coach Xavi. The senior national team is looking to rebound after a poor start to their campaign, having secured only two points from their first four matches. Despite the slim chances of finishing in the top two, the coaching staff remains optimistic and is conducting an internal review of the team's performance.
Recent comments from Football Association Chairman Shino Zuarz indicating Ben Shimon's continued tenure for the next campaign have eased some pressure. However, it is understood that the team's final standing in the group, particularly if they finish fourth, will be a critical factor in evaluating the chairman's remarks.
