The IDF Spokesperson's Unit on Friday, October 23, released the names of two soldiers killed in a morning terror attack near Hebron. Senior Sergeant Ron Yonatan Reitman, 23, from Ashkelon, served as a squad commander in the "Ari" battalion of the Combat Engineering Corps. Sergeant Yuval Shai Swilem, 20, from Hod HaSharon, was a combat soldier in the same battalion. Three other soldiers were injured in the attack and are reported to be in light condition. The families of the fallen and injured have been notified.

David Reitman, Ron's brother, described him as "a real star" who was loved by everyone. Despite an initial injury that should have prevented him from combat service, Ron fought to become a soldier, eventually leading a squad of recruits. He actively sought dangerous assignments in Judea and Samaria. The family has a strong military tradition, with David serving in the Combat Engineering Corps and their older sister in the Caracal combat battalion. Ron also attended the "Kadouri" agricultural boarding school. David fondly remembered Ron as "a person who knew how to enjoy life" and "my best friend."

Mayor of Hod HaSharon, Amir Kochavi, expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sergeant Yuval Shai Swilem, a local resident and son of Sivan and Amnon. He extended condolences to the family on behalf of the municipality and its residents.

The attack occurred at the Yehuda Junction on Highway 35, southeast of Hebron. Five people were wounded: two in serious condition, one in moderate, and two in light condition. IDF soldiers eliminated two terrorists who attempted to flee after a prolonged exchange of fire. Eyewitnesses reported the terrorists, armed with M16 rifles and pistols, fired for about 20 minutes, preventing paramedics from reaching the wounded. The terrorists were eventually neutralized after a short pursuit as they retreated towards Arab villages.

IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, stated that a large quantity of ammunition was found in the terrorists' vehicle, suggesting they intended to carry out a larger-scale attack. He credited the swift actions of the "Ari" battalion soldiers with preventing a more severe incident. Zamir also approved a blockade of Hebron and surrounding villages until further notice. He confirmed both terrorists were affiliated with Hamas and praised the soldiers' bravery. The IDF had recently increased its readiness levels twice due to fears of escalation.
