Greek basketball club Panathinaikos is reportedly considering adding NBA centers James Wiseman and Charles Bassey to bolster their roster due to multiple injuries. Coach Zeljko Obradovic has reportedly narrowed down a list of eight potential candidates to two.
Wiseman, currently with the New York Knicks, was previously linked to Hapoel Tel Aviv in the summer. Bassey plays for the Golden State Warriors.
The team's search for a center began over the summer following an injury to Mustapha Fall, who missed significant preparation time for the season. Additionally, Mathias Lessort's physical condition is described as unstable, prompting the club's desire for more depth at the center position.
Wiseman, 25, was the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He is on a minimum contract with the Knicks, but his release is considered possible due to limited playing time. Obradovic had previously pursued Bassey twice while coaching Partizan, but the player opted for the NBA.
Notably, Hapoel Tel Aviv had also considered acquiring Wiseman two months ago as a third center for their EuroLeague roster, but ultimately signed Bruno Caboclo instead.
