Israeli coach Barak Yitzhaki has arrived in Cyprus to finalize a deal with the Cypriot club Anorthosis, where he previously played. Yitzhaki is expected to sign a contract through the summer of 2028. He landed on the island and is set to join the team's training session on Tuesday.
Yitzhaki's arrival comes as Anorthosis is in a dire situation, currently sitting second to last in the league standings with only three points after six matches. This move follows his departure from Beitar Jerusalem approximately five months ago, after a successful tenure where he guided the team from the bottom of the Israeli Premier League to contention for the championship, also winning the Toto Cup.
His departure from Beitar Jerusalem was reportedly due to financial disagreements with owner Barak Abramov, who then appointed professional manager Almog Cohen. Anorthosis fans are reportedly looking to Yitzhaki to replicate his success in revitalizing the team, drawing parallels to his work with Beitar. He played for Anorthosis during the 2012-2013 season, scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances before returning to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Fans are hopeful that Yitzhaki's experience and character will help restore Anorthosis to its former status at the top of Cypriot football. His first match as coach is scheduled for Saturday.
