Israeli coach Barak Yitzhaki is reportedly on his way to sign a two-year contract with Cypriot club Anorthosis, according to reports from Sport 5 and Cypriot media. He is expected to arrive in Cyprus imminently to finalize the deal, with a potential presentation as early as Thursday afternoon.
Anorthosis, one of Cyprus's most decorated clubs, reportedly chose Yitzhaki after considering three to four other candidates. This move marks Yitzhaki's first international coaching position. Previously, he served as interim coach for Maccabi Tel Aviv and then led Beitar Jerusalem for over two years, achieving significant success including a Toto Cup win, a State Cup final appearance, and a second-place league finish.
The club, based in Famagusta, has a history of success, including being the first Cypriot team to reach the Champions League group stage in the 2008/09 season. However, in recent years, Anorthosis has experienced professional and managerial instability. Their last title was the Cypriot Cup in 2021, and they have struggled to compete for the league championship, often finishing in the middle or lower half of the table.
Anorthosis recently dismissed Nestor El Maestro, who was appointed in the summer and led the team to a poor start to the season with one win and five losses, placing them 13th out of 14 teams in the league. Yitzhaki's arrival is expected to address the team's current struggles.
