IKEA stores are being transformed into virtual gaming arenas as part of a promotion for the new IKEA gaming collection, developed in collaboration with Xbox. The initiative invites visitors to participate in an augmented reality game within the stores, where they can win a grand prize: a spot in an exceptional final tournament alongside prominent Israeli gamers.
This marks the first time IKEA has converted its stores into a gaming venue. The promotion, running from October 18 to 22, is inspired by the common gamer's dilemma of losing a controller just as they're about to play. Participants will search for hidden controllers, complete challenges, and earn points to qualify for the final tournament.
The top 50 participants will gain entry to a special final event, where they will compete with leading Israeli gamers, including Idan Telem (Endgame), Ohad Avitbol (Master Ohad), Bar Oples (Zeigy), and Dan Gifen (Psychonic).
The event celebrates the launch of the YXSTABY gaming collection, a joint venture between IKEA and Xbox designed to integrate gaming into daily home life. The collection offers solutions for playing, storing, and organizing gaming equipment with designs that blend seamlessly into home environments.
Elements from the Xbox controller inspired the collection's design, with familiar features reinterpreted into furniture and decor. For instance, a directional button is reimagined as a cushion and a stainless steel dish, while a joystick-shaped seat offers a unique seating option. The collection features clean lines and soft shapes in neutral colors, with green accents highlighting gaming storage solutions, reflecting IKEA's signature Scandinavian aesthetic.
