Trump Calls Hormuz Attack a 'Stupid Violation' of the Ceasefire

President Donald Trump said on Friday evening that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out a nighttime attack in the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. He said Iran fired at least four drones at ships crossing the waterway, and that one cargo vessel was hit but managed to keep sailing despite the damage.

Trump added that U.S. forces shot down three additional drones. He described the incident as a “stupid violation” of the ceasefire agreement.

Separately, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said in an interview with UnHerd that the United States and Iran had agreed to place a Revolutionary Guards representative in Doha, alongside a representative of U.S. Central Command, “to resolve disputes and prevent further clashes.”

At the same time, an Iranian source told Reuters that an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon is a condition for a final agreement between Iran and the United States and is a “red line.” Vance also said Israel has the right to self-defense, like any other country in the region, while stressing that the main goal is to ensure all sides can defend themselves as efforts continue to de-escalate tensions.
