A section of a building at 63 Nachalat Binyamin Street in Tel Aviv collapsed on Tuesday morning during construction work for a Tama 38 reinforcement and expansion project. The building, constructed in the 1930s and designated for preservation, had previously been listed as dangerous by the Tel Aviv municipality in April 2023 after an inspection by engineer Chaim Zilberman found it posed a risk. Following this, the municipality issued a demolition order and required immediate repairs. In early 2024, after the required work was completed and verified by Zilberman, the building was removed from the dangerous buildings list, with the case officially closed.

Despite the previous safety concerns and subsequent repairs, the building collapsed while Tama 38 construction was underway. The project, led by entrepreneur Shlomi Tahori's company Shlomi Tahori Investments, aimed to add floors and apartments. An engineer's report from January 2024 by Yosef Karni stated the building was stable and safe after repairs, though he recommended re-inspections due to its age and outdated construction standards. The municipality confirmed that the building had been on the dangerous buildings list for balcony repairs, which were completed and the file closed in 2024.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the collapse, as construction workers on site managed to escape just before the incident, and a person on a nearby bench also fled in time. Municipal representatives, including the engineering administration, are currently at the scene. Three adjacent buildings have been evacuated as a precaution until the site is cleared and the debris removed. An information center for residents has also been established.

Shlomi Tahori, the developer involved, has previously garnered media attention for his personal relationships, including a past partnership with real estate entrepreneur Inbal Or, with whom he has a child. Or was convicted of fraud and tax offenses in 2025 and sentenced to prison. Tahori was also reportedly in a relationship with model Tahounia Rubel.
