Former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar filed a defamation lawsuit against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday at the Central District Court. In the lawsuit, Bar claims to reveal for the first time "a series of repeated warnings throughout 2023, and recommendations for their thwarting that Netanyahu ignored." The suit was prompted by a social media post from Netanyahu, in which he accused Bar of "failures and crimes." Netanyahu alleged that the former Shin Bet head "knew of a real danger" before the October 7th attack but "decided not to call and update the Prime Minister, not to warn the standby units and IDF forces in the field, not to evacuate the Nova party, and only to send a small tequila team."

Bar filed the lawsuit without knowing if Netanyahu would claim immunity. "I call on the Prime Minister not to hide behind a claim of immunity," Bar stated. "In the absence of a state commission of inquiry, the truth will be revealed in court. A little light will dispel much darkness."
