Ariel Mendy Agrees Terms with Hapoel Haifa
Left back Ariel Mendy has reached an agreement to join Hapoel Haifa and is expected to stay in the Israeli Premier League after being released by M.S. Ashdod, where he was relegated to the National League. The Senegalese defender will sign officially once the club completes its separation from Sana Gomes.
Hapoel Haifa is expected to announce soon that Gomes is leaving after informing the club he will not come to Israel for the start of preseason training. The parties have already agreed on a framework in which the club will waive the contract that had been activated, Gomes will be released, and Mendy will then be added formally to the squad.
Mendy, 31, joined Beitar Jerusalem last summer, started the season there, but was injured, lost his place in the lineup to Yarden Cohen, and was released in January. He then moved to M.S. Ashdod and finished the season with the club, which was relegated to the second tier.
Last season, Mendy made 24 appearances in all competitions and scored one goal.
