Kfar Saba Mayor's Wife Suspected of Obstructing Investigation

Police suspect Meital Saar, wife of Kfar Saba Mayor Rafi Saar, attempted to obstruct an investigation in the days leading up to her arrest. The suspicion emerged following reports that the mayor and his wife had inquired whether police were conducting wiretaps against them, though they were reportedly unsuccessful in confirming this. The investigation centers on a serious corruption case involving allegations of bribery, fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and tax offenses.

Mayor Rafi Saar and his wife were arrested along with 18 others as part of the probe. Authorities are examining connections between several incidents and the case, including the purchase of a smartphone for the mayor's daughter and the discovery of NIS 200,000 in cash at the home of the mayor's mother-in-law, which she claims is savings from domestic work. A bag of envelopes from a wedding, suspected by police to be a bribe, was also found at the home of a company's CEO involved in the case.

These suspicions add to existing allegations against the mayor and others, including the rigging of tenders by the municipality in favor of those involved in the affair in exchange for cash bribes. Police estimate that hundreds of thousands of shekels were transferred to the mayor and his wife, enabling them to maintain a lavish lifestyle, including cash purchases and foreign trips.
