An undercover investigation, ongoing for over a year by the National Fraud Investigation Unit (LAHAV 433), has led to the arrest of 17 suspects, including the head of a large authority in central Israel and his wife. The probe centers on allegations of severe public corruption, bribery, fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and tax offenses. Also arrested were the CEO of an economic company, other public employees, and businessmen.

Authorities suspect that in exchange for cash bribes, the authority head and the economic company's CEO, with significant involvement from the authority head's wife, acted to benefit those offering the bribes. This allegedly resulted in the bribe-givers winning lucrative tenders within the local authority across various sectors.

The investigation also uncovered the involvement, direct or indirect and over time, of known criminal elements from central Israel in the bribery mechanism. These elements allegedly received tenders and engaged in violent offenses in return.

In addition to the 17 arrests, 7 more suspects were detained for questioning. Searches were conducted at offices and businesses, and significant amounts of cash and property were seized. The investigation is being supervised by the State Prosecutor's Office's economic department. It is emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, and no indictment has been filed.
