Israeli NBA player Deni Avdija was a guest on Draymond Green's podcast, where he discussed his challenging start in the league. Avdija described his draft experience in November 2020 as unusual, being selected late at night while at home with family, unlike the typical draft night fanfare. He also detailed the difficulties of arriving in Washington D.C. during the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it a "ghost town" with empty streets and mask-wearing protocols, which made his transition from abroad particularly tough.
Avdija reflected that while playing alongside veteran players and good teammates helped him mature, his initial NBA journey was not smooth. Green acknowledged Avdija's progress, noting his strong performance last season with Portland, where he "drove them crazy" nightly and led the team in points, eventually earning an All-Star selection. Green highlighted Avdija's current situation on a team with other stars like Damian Lillard and Ja Morant, asking how it feels to enter the season with higher expectations.
Avdija responded positively to being surrounded by All-Stars, emphasizing that their experience is beneficial. He acknowledged the increased expectations but stated he embraces it as part of the job, feeling good about the situation.
