Deni Avdija Reflects on Playoff Journey and All-Star Aspirations

Israeli basketball player Deni Avdija recently appeared on Draymond Green's podcast, discussing his playoff debut and the evolving expectations surrounding his career. Avdija described his team's playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs as a "physical battle" due to the Spurs' height, particularly their player Wemby. He emphasized the significant difference between the regular season and the playoffs, noting the increased intensity and strategic complexity.

Avdija shared his surprise at the Spurs reaching the finals after his team eliminated them, though he acknowledged their strength and the New York Knicks' deserving championship win. He also reflected on his status in Israel, where he is considered one of the country's top basketball players, even in the shadow of Omri Casspi. Avdija expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from Israeli fans, who wake up early to watch his games regardless of his performance.

Looking ahead, Avdija is set to begin the 2026/27 season, his first with All-Star status. He admitted that achieving this level was not something he had anticipated, focusing instead on day-to-day progress. He highlighted the immense support he feels from his home country, calling it a "huge blessing."
