Reservist driver Basel Suweid, 32, from Peki'in, was killed Wednesday night when a military fuel truck overturned in the Rab a Thallin area of southern Lebanon, near Misgav Am. The crash happened at 10:50 p.m.
Suweid served in Battalion 75 of the 7th Brigade's Golan Division and was part of the Golani battle team force at the time of the accident. Another IDF soldier was moderately wounded in the same incident.
Suweid was also known as a friend of Maj. Jamal Abbas, a company commander in Battalion 101 of the Paratroopers, who was killed in Gaza on November 18, 2023, at the age of 23.
The Facebook page "Druze Tweeting" wrote, "Two good friends, two fighters, two heroes." It added that they were "two brave young men, the salt of the earth, who chose the path of service, responsibility, mission and sacrifice for the security of the state," and said the loss linked "two families, an entire community and a whole nation."
