A contractor working for a company carrying out engineering work on behalf of Israel’s Defense Ministry was killed earlier Wednesday in an operational accident in the Gaza Strip, the IDF said. According to reports, he was operating an excavator when a structure collapsed on him. The incident is under investigation.
The article says that, earlier Wednesday, it was reported that the IDF controls about 70% of the Gaza Strip as a result of engineering operations meant to locate terror infrastructure above and below ground and push threats back from the “yellow line.” During these operations, the army is also striking terror targets from the air deep inside the territory and from the ground against attempts to cross the line.
The IDF chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, has also approved plans for a renewed campaign if talks between mediators and Hamas fail and the terror group refuses to disarm, according to the report. In parallel, discussions are said to be underway with Israeli companies to demolish Palestinian buildings across Gaza on an unprecedented scale, involving hundreds of thousands of structures.
