A contract worker carrying out engineering work on behalf of Israel’s Defense Ministry was killed earlier Wednesday in Gaza, in what the military called an operational accident. The family was notified.
The victim, Abu Alqiaan from the southern Israeli city of Rahat, died when a structure collapsed while he was in Gaza as part of IDF and security forces activity in the Strip. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said, “The IDF and the Defense Ministry share in the family’s sorrow.”
According to the report, Abu Alqiaan is the fifth Defense Ministry contractor to be killed in Gaza and Lebanon since the start of the war. Reshet Bet reported that none of the five has been recognized as an IDF fallen soldier, and their families have not been granted bereaved-family status, despite their deaths in various incidents in enemy territory during the war in Gaza and Lebanon.
